Oatmeal apple cinnamon rolls

I had some friends coming over who I hadn't seen since God-knows-when, so naturally I had to prepare for them the most amazing cinnamon buns I've ever had.

Totally from scratch, I improvised the recipe: The dough, rather than a pastry dough, is a slightly sweet oatmeal bread. Instead of forming it into a loaf after its first rise, I rolled it out to a flat, elongated shape and spread a mixture of butter, cinnamon, sugar, walnuts, and apple slices; then I rolled it into a log, and cut into 8 pieces. I let it rise again, then baked. Topped with cream cheese frosting.

It took a few hours, with all the rising dough and whatnot, so I made them the day before and we ate them in the morning. Only six in the picture because my family got to them before me!
